About Our Chapter
Cycling Without Age Door County exists to help people stay connected to their community and to the places they love.
We provide free trishaw rides for all ages including mature adults and people with varying mobility needs.
This creates opportunities to get outside, have fun, and experience Door County in a meaningful way.
BEING PART OF A GLOBAL COMMUNITY
Cycling Without Age began in 2012 in Copenhagen, Denmark, and has grown into a global movement with more than 3,000 chapters worldwide.
Bringing this program to Door County has allowed us to offer rides along Peninsula State Park, the Ahnapee State Trail, the Sturgeon Bay waterfront, and many of the quieter roads throughout our county.
Through partnerships with local organizations and care facilities, as well as public ride opportunities, we are able to serve a wide range of individuals across the community.
Each ride is simple by design — but the impact is lasting.
“Cycling Without Age is a movement – literally – that’s creating a sense of freedom, joy and happiness in an awesome meeting of generations.”
— Ole Kassow, CWA Founder
Guiding Principles
These principles guide every ride and interaction:
Generosity: Generosity permeates every activity in Cycling Without Age. It starts with the simple act of taking one or two elderly or differently abled people out on a bike ride.
Slowness: Slow paced rides are in contrast to the fast pace of modern society. By incentivizing the slowness of the ride, passengers are allowed to fully take in the environment and be present in the moment.
Storytelling:Storytelling is an important interaction between passengers and pilots. Sharing, listening to and documenting stories merge people together from all generations.
Relationships: By creating an opportunity where relationships can flourish, Cycling Without Age encourages, strengthens and energizes the connectivity among participants.
Without Age: We let people age in a positive context, without social limitations, by providing them meaningful interactions with members of their local community.
HOW IT WORKSRides are offered in two primary ways:
Through partner organizations and care facilities
Scheduled directly with those organizations as part of ongoing programmingPublic community rides
Open to residents and visitors throughout the season
All rides are free of charge and led by trained volunteer pilots.
